Vital for human life, health, agriculture, industry and the ecosystem, water is an increasingly threatened resource. According to a report by the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, published ahead of the United Nations Water Conference in New York from 22 to 24 March, if current trends continue, global demand for freshwater will exceed supply by 40% by 2030. And 2030 is tomorrow !
WUE OF THE MARCOUSSIS CAMPUS: 0.06L/KWH IT, EQUIVALENT TO A LUNGO COFFEE
AT DATA4, we have a long-standing commitment to a virtuous in favour of sustainable development. Having worked to improve our carbon footprint and optimise the energy efficiency of our data center campuses, we’re about to launch a comprehensive water management plan, the strategy of which will be revealed in the next group CSR report in June.
AT DATA4 , commitment is about measurable results. This is why, thanks to the actions already implemented to preserve water resources, we’ve succeeded in lowering the WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) of our campus in Marcoussis (Essonne) to 0.06L/kWh IT – the equivalent of a 6cl cup of lungo coffee – the average WUE in industry being around 1L/kWh IT, the equivalent of a 1L bottle of water.
And we can still do better – this is one of our main challenges !
We use the latest proven technologies (free-cooling and free-chilling), and we’re working daily to improve our air humidification techniques, optimise the temperature of our data centers and explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence to help us further regulate our water consumption.
